Wide To West wins at Ffos Las

Absolutely thrilled with Wide To West winning yesterday for the first time at Ffos Las under a never say die ride from Sean Bowen showing why he deserves to be Champion Jockey, if not this season, very soon. Westie isn’t very quick and didn’t make life easy for himself or Sean but Sean never, ever gave up on him and he jumped the last fence the best of all and he eventually went on to win by 3 1/2 lengths. So pleased for his patient owners Sarah & Leigh Powell and Neil Williams who haven’t lost faith in him and are so supportive of the yard. It was also great for Ernie who has looked after Westie since he arrived from Ireland & was quite nervous and also for Oli Hayes who rides him out every day and sits his bucks usually all the way home! He is A1 this morning.

We also ran Breizh Alko over hurdles under Harry Atkins and he ran well for a long way but turning for home younger legs passed him and we have decided now is a good time to give him a well earned retirement. Breizh was leased to us from David Parry who owned him since he was in training with Ferdy Murphy and is therefore very, very special to him. Rebecca Menzies then took over and he won impressively for her at Haydock and she graciously decided our routine may suit him better so he was transferred to us and we had plenty more fun with him. He won three times, was 2nd twice and 3rd twice and is fortunate enough to be looked after & ridden out by Ernie and I think she is the only person he likes – the rest of us keep a very wide berth from him at all times! He will no doubt have a wonderful retirement with her. Happy Retirement Breizh!

Cheltenham again today and David Vickers called in to watch a couple of lots en route to the races. We run Zestful, Escaria Ten and Witness Protection and whilst we may struggle to add to our tally of winners this week (we are currently on the Hot List!) they will all hopefully run solid races and you never know what can happen at our favourite local track!

Another milestone Sean Bowen doesn’t realise he passed yesterday – he became our most successful jockey with 42 winners bypassing Warren Marston on 41. Ian Popham is closely behind on 38 winners then Andrew Tinkler on 33.
