Mr Mafia wins again!

I know I’ve said it before but what a star Mr Mafia has been for our team and for his owner Peter Boggis. Following his impressive 20 length win over fences under Richard Johnson at Southwell last week the handicapper was impressed enough to raise him 12 pounds and so, as he looked to come out of his race so well, we decided to run him again yesterday with ‘just’ his 7lbs penalty and before the 12lbs kicks in. Irish raider Home Place also looked to be doing the same so although he was favourite it was no penalty kick.

Peter could thankfully be at Southwell yesterday having missed last week and racing was brought forward so that Mafia’s race was actually in the morning and missed the worst of the heat. Richard settled him in 2nd but by the 7th race he hit the front drawing clear soon after and went away to win unchallenged with his ears pricked. He didn’t even look to have much of a blow which was unbelievable considering the heat. Southwell did a superb job and they were all dismounted on the course surrounded by people helping apply water and vets overseeing them all. One very happy horse, owner, trainer, jockey and Jasmin too who looks after him.

Southwell made the correct decision to abandon racing as Enforcement was being saddled as they all decided it was too hot. We therefore washed him down and they both headed home in our air conditioned lorry.

Witness Protection was the most popular horse here today with a few visitors to watch him in action on the gallops. He’s a lovely horse and there are still some shares available in him. Do get in touch if you are interested in joining a professionally run syndicate – Foxtrot Racing. Dan Abraham runs Foxtrot and last season they had an incredibly successful season with most of their horses winning or being placed so it’s a successful team too! This season has started off well for them as well.
