Martin’s Blog 9th November

Ben Brain in again this morning to overground scope one and James Best and Warren Marston in to ride work. We worked Pinnacle Peak, Bella Ciao, Zestful, Ambassador, Enforcement, Dreamsundermyfeet and Rolling Clouds. Spice Boy, Ballyvango, Unnamed Diamond Boy and Myladygrace did a swinging canter and all the rest cantered. Just A Deal and Duke of Luckley schooled under Harry Atkins and James.

Bangor today with Found On (Sean Bowen) for Ollie & Irene Ryan going for her 6 timer. Dropping back in trip after her fantastic win at Cheltenham last time. She seems in great form and, although she’s won on quicker surfaces recently than she is on today, she has won on heavy ground over hurdles and so I’m hopeful she’ll handle it again today. As you can expect for a Listed race there are some very promising mares in it so, although she is favourite, it is very competitive. It would be unbelievable if she could win again today though.

Mr Mafia slipped into the first fence yesterday and lost a shoe. He didn’t really enjoy himself and didn’t jump with quite the fluency he usually does. Whether it’s the end of a long season or it’s Mafia starting to tell us he’s nearly had enough, I’m not sure. He definitely prefers the sun on his back and conditions were horrid with driving rain but he should have been nearer than he was. He’s A1 today and it may be time for his winter holiday with his owners before we decide about next season. He does love being in training but no-one enjoyed watching him yesterday and he owes us nothing.
