Martin’s Blog 9th July

We were thrilled with Jim Burley & Jon Hughes’ Gold Mountain on Tuesday at Newton Abbot when he ran a belter to finish 2nd under a great ride from James Best. James has ridden Goldie most days throughout Lockdown and that familiarity proved it’s worth as the pair took lengths out of the field on quite a number of occasions and outran their odds of 16-1, the outsiders of the field. Unlucky to just bump into a classy horse but we were thrilled none the less and he is A1 afterwards.

The hot weather we experienced in lockdown seems a thing of the past at the moment and been replaced with plenty of rain. It’s mild though but does mean that there is plenty of mowing and strimming to do and, obviously, with many of ours being trained from the field at the moment, the grass is growing well for them too.

We have been frustrated with plenty of our horses getting balloted out and we are hopeful of more races for our summer jumpers on the calendar soon. Hopefully the rules for owners will continue to be relaxed soon too as we really must get our owners back onto the track as soon as we can.
