Martin’s Blog 9th December

Yesterday was our Martin Keighley Racing Club’s Christmas Morning on the gallops and what a fun morning we all had. They all enjoyed watching the horses on the gallops for a couple of lots plus talking to the team and looking at the horses in their stables. Afterwards they had mulled wine and Janne Bishop’s delicious mince pies in the Owners’ Room for a bit of a Q&A session where Jon Hughes, our Chairman, threw some questions at me and also at the Club too whilst many of them were sporting their Christmas jumpers! Our three new foals were a huge hit too!

We still have availability in our Racing Club for 2019. It’s a fun club and a great way to get involved in the yard and make new friendships too. We don’t just have fun, we have winners as well and I don’t think there has been a time yet when a member hasn’t been able to get a ticket to watch a runner when they have wanted to – occasionally if they are unsuccessful in the ballot they will be offered a 1/2 price ticket but most times there are enough free O&T tickets to go around. We’ve had 5 winners in under 2 years and lots placed too.

As well as the Christmas yard visit you will get an invitation to our Annual Owners’ Day plus at least one other arranged visit to the yard. We now have a mix of flat and jumpers in the Club and always try to ensure there are at least 2 horses for you to follow – there are often even more! We should have a couple of runners over Christmas so what better Christmas present for a loved on, or yourself?! Just £500 per year or a monthly option of £42/month – get in touch for details.

Mark Caswell was in yesterday morning and we worked some of the horses up the grass including Young Phoenix, Robsam, Sarasota Star, Oscar World, Chequered View, Brillare Momento, Somewhere To Be, Buckle Street, Finnick Glory, Solstice Star and Forecast. All the rest cantered.

On Friday evening we had our annual family panto trip to watch Aladdin at The Everyman in Cheltenham featuring our favourite clown, Tweedy. It was absolutely superb and, although we always seem to come away each year saying it was the ‘best yet’, this year it really is! Harry was even lucky enough to be chosen to go up on stage and disappeared off with Tweedy & Aladdin only to re-appear on a big screen in the middle of the stage on a flying magic carpet! A panto he will never ever forget!

Our latest newsletter was out yesterday so do please get in touch with us if you didn’t receive a copy as we will add you to the circulation list. Thanks to Toby Elford who helps us compile it as we have already had lots of positive feedback and Toby works very hard for us and always has great ideas.
