Martin’s Blog 8th May

Wow what a beautiful weekend. More happy horses going out for their summer holiday in our wonderful huge turnout paddocks surrounding the yard – great to have them on site so that I can monitor them daily.

No runners yesterday but plenty to do here and a good catch up with Jon Hughes, our Chairman and Foxy my Assistant Trainer in the morning – making plans for the future so exciting stuff.

Yesterday afternoon I took the family to a BBQ to celebrate Richard Davies’ birthday with his family and friends. Couldn’t have picked better weather and it was great to see all of Richard’s youngstock too, looking well out in the fields. A fun afternoon. Happy Birthday to him for today – May is a busy month for birthdays!

Still glorious here today and work morning so Warren Marston in and he worked our lovely youngster Debden Bank and was very impressed indeed. Known in racing as ‘the Judge’ we really value Warren’s opinion and are now keen to find an owner for this ‘proper’ horse who gave him a lovely feel today. Exciting times and do get in touch if you would like to come and see him – he’s beautifully bred and is a full brother to yard favourite Buckle Street.

Other horses here for sale – Matravers and Primogeniture who both have form and are fit and ready to run on the flat or over hurdles so two versatile types so get in touch if you would like to see them too.

Well done to our Travelling Head Girl Issy Mangan who was eventing yesterday on her lovely grey horse ‘Vinnie’ as she won her section at Moreton Morrell event. Issy works hard to juggle the demands of her full time job here and keeping Vinnie on top form and she’s obviously doing a great job. He comes up our gallops from time to time too so that no doubt helps his fitness.

Great to see what a good job Ian Popham is already doing as a Jockey’s Agent since he started a week ago at the start of the 2018/2019 season – he’s already ensuring Harry Stock, our Conditional, is busier than ever. We obviously know Pops really well as he’s ridden us plenty of winners including our 1st Grade 1 winner on Annacotty and Cheltenham winners too so we work well together and we are sure he will do a fantastic job and we wish him well.
