Martin’s Blog 8th January

Wet again this morning – it’s been so cold all week and a hard frost with -7 on Thursday too. Thanks to my team for all their continued hard work especially as a couple of them have been off with covid – it doesn’t seem to be going away despite us all being fully vaccinated. Lots of the recent runners are having a mid winter break so we are coping well and the full team should be back before they come back in. Thankfully it’s still Christmas Holidays for the Turner girls – Jemima and Polly so they have been able to come in and cover too which has been a huge help.

No rest for the wicked! Ensuring the gallop is in tip top condition for the morning.

On Thursday evening Mary and Freja Thackray came to visit us at evening stables and enjoyed cuddling so many of the horses – who equally enjoyed being cuddled! Freja even found Breizh Alko pretty pleased to see her and he is usually only ever pleased to see Ernie who looks after him and adores him! He certainly isn’t keen on me! Great to see Mary & Freja as always as they enjoy their trip around the Cotswold Training establishments.

Breizh Alko & Freja – butter wouldn’t melt!
Freja with Sarasota as Samtara photobombs! Monday’s two runners.

Yesterday morning the team welcomed Dan Abraham and about 50 members of Foxtrot Racing to the yard and they enjoyed watching the horses doing their fast work on the gallops and returned to the yard to mingle with the team and look at the horses in their stables too. Dan and I had a bit of a Q&A whilst the members were treated to hot food, mulled wine and champagne. A really fun morning and thanks to Paul Davis & Belinda for their hard work to ensure everyone was looked after so well.

Team Foxtrot

Billy Worthington and Graham Saville were in to see their lovely homebred Telescope mare, Finescope, on Thursday – I’m really pleased with how she is coming along. We’ve got some lovely youngsters and mares seem to thrive here which is great and we have some really nice mares coming along.

Tilly Jarrett in this morning and we schooled Sarasota Star, Dreamsundermyfeet, Capricia, Culverwell and Duke Of Luckley. No runners this weekend but we will be at Ludlow and Taunton on Monday.
