Martin’s Blog 8th February

Jon Hughes and John and Claire Abernethy braved the cold to be with us on the gallops this morning. John & Claire however have dashed off home after seeing their horses as they are now coming to cheer on Brillare Momento at Towcester later today (they joined us in the Winners’ Room after Spice Girl won there recently so we are hoping they are lucky mascots!). Brillare was also declared at Huntingdon in case Towcester was off as I am keen to get a run into her before hopefully heading to The David Nicholson Mares’ Race at The Festival next month. Therefore she’s obviously now been taken out of Huntingdon before the 9am deadline otherwise her owner would have to pay 50% of the jockey fees under the new rules.

I’m hoping that Towcester will suit Brillare as she shows from her two Cheltenham wins that she enjoys an undulating track. She seems in really good form but the favourite’s form looks rock solid too with both of us choosing to claim – Harry Stock hasn’t ridden Brillare before but has schooled her at home so knows her well. Good luck to Ollie & Irene Ryan, such supportive members of our team.

Nick Partidge and Amy Clarke, our farriers, were in this morning and Hannah Ashton, one of our physios, was in yesterday. All of them are extended members of the team but all vitally important and with a role to play to keep the horses in top shape.

We are looking for a new member of the team to join us for a month to cover Alfie’s compulsory 4 weeks at the British Racing School. This could easily turn into a full time position as we have an influx of new horses with another due tomorrow. However, if someone was only available for the month that would suit us fine too.
