Leicester yesterday and Sporty Yankee ran a much improved race under Harry Stock to finish 3rd. Yes, only in a seller, however he showed much more zest and encouragement throughout the whole race, jumped well and was beaten by two nice enough horses so all the partners and I were happy. Going the right way for sure.
Cup of Ambition needs to brush up on his jumping – Harry Stock sat well throughout and they were still travelling coming to the third last but probably his worst mistake put paid to any chance. We also feel he doesn’t stay so he needs dropping back in trip.
The forecast overnight snow didn’t materialise, much to Freddie & Harry’s disappointment – a very early check from Freddie out of his window confirmed to the whole house that it was a school day not a sledging day! A relief for me as it was work day today.
We worked Somewhere To Be, Pomme De Nuit, Lerichi Belle, Cul De Poule, Brillare Momento, Viking Mistress, Raving Bonkers, Lord Condi, Weyburn, Twentyoneblackjack and Lady Vitesse. All the rest cantered. Bacon sandwiches for the team afterwards as it’s pretty cold here and nothing will be turned out today either. Apparently snow is due later!
We have copies of The Big Reveal Calendar for 2018 which Claire Hardwick and her team of girls plus some wello known point-to-point jockeys were brave enough to strip off for in the summer and have their photos taken riding out and in and around Stratford Racecourse baring all! Very brave and all in a brilliant cause – to raise money for the Injured Jockeys Fund. They are only £10 each so bring £10 when you are next in and you can own one too!
Our Racing Club may have the most exciting week of it’s year with a bit of luck next week as Viking Mistress may head to Cheltenham a week today! What a success the Club has been – we’ve had 34 runners, 4 winners and well over 50% in the first four .. extend that to first 6 and it’s nearly 80% so they’ve given us so much to shout on and enjoy. There are a few spaces available for next year as a few of the earlier members have taken the plunge up the ownership latter and moved into owning a share in a horse…do get in touch and if you join and pay for 2018 before next Thursday you will be put in the ballot for a ticket to cheer on Viking Mistress as an owner if she runs at Cheltenham on Friday – what a thrill that will be!
