Martin’s Blog 7th May

Morning everyone, another beautiful day in the Cotswolds – hope it is where you are reading this too and that you are able to get out in it, even if just for a short while.

We have local jockey James Best coming in daily to ride out and, as he lives in nearby Hawling, he cycles the 18 mile round trip here so is keeping his fitness levels up too. Our Chairman, Jon Hughes and his wife Jack also live in Hawling and arranged for James to come in after a chance meeting on their daily walk (2 metres apart I’m sure!) and it works well for us all.

The majority of the team are furloughed for May and we are keeping in touch via WhatsApp and will have another Zoom catch up shortly too. Hopefully they too are making the most of the weather and for many of them it’s their first real break since they left school so, although not ideal on Lockdown, I hope they are using it to re-charge their batteries as we are all hoping to be really busy racing again at some stage…..we await to hear when!

Everyone seems very interested in our chickens! Well, the original 4 are laying well however the newbies haven’t started laying yet so the roadside stall is on hold! The eggs are delicious so we can’t wait to share them! They all seem very happy – as are our dogs and horses – all oblivious!

Homeschooling is doing ok I think – no meltdowns so far this week and the Teachers’ messages are really helping with the positivity. Not sure Belinda will be swapping her normal day job when this is all over though! I’ll miss my two little helpers around the place for sure when school starts again – I’m thoroughly enjoying them helping me and they seem to enjoy learning more about the upkeep of our yard and fields etc and also looking after the horses too.
