Martin’s Blog 6th July

Cotswold Prince ran a good race to finish 3rd at Market Rasen on Sunday under Richard Johnson, just needing the race a little but jumped well and will come on for the run. Richard liked him and, as usual, was very good with his feedback to the owners afterwards which is so important.

Lord Condi unfortunately spread a plate during the race and the clip pierced his foot. Leighton pulled him up as quickly as he could and although there was a lot of blood, I was very relieved to see it wasn’t as bad as I feared running down. He’s very sore on it but my team are giving him plenty of TLC and he should be alright. Very lucky.

We are now in the summer break of jump racing so no racing until the middle of next week. Always so much still to do here though. This morning we’ve had Freddie’s pony racing friend, young 12 year old Richard Cook in riding out which encouraged Freddie to be brave enough to join him and it was great seeing the potential jockeys of the future as part of the string. Richard’s older brother Edward has been working hard too – he has spent two mornings on my tractor mowing the gallops and has done a superb job so two very useful young men!
