Martin’s Blog 6th December

We schooled quite a few horses this morning in case the weather forecast is correct and we get a cold spell where the schooling ground may freeze. We can always school on our Carpet Loop or, indeed, up the straight Carpet gallop but ideally I’d prefer to school them on grass.

We schooled Brillare Momento, Spice Girl, Young Phoenix, Oscar World, Fairmount, Dr Dunraven, Twentyoneblackjack, Cul De Poule and Lerichi Belle and our schoolmaster Champion Court led the younger ones and was shared between Alfie Jordan and Kieran O’Hare so earning his keep teaching both young horses and young jockeys too! He’s worth his weight in gold.

Just one runner today – Chequered View heads to Ludlow for her second run in a bumper. She finished 4th last time at Warwick which was a great run and if she builds on that she should be placed again although there are some nice looking newcomers in the race that are an unknown quantity. After daughter Zara was a winning owner/breeder recently for us with Somewhere To Be, it would be great to train a winner for her mother too. Princess Anne owns and bred Chequered View. Even if it’s not today, she’s a nice mare so will hopefully win for us in the not too distant future.
