Martin’s Blog 5th December

Foggy and damp this morning and the horses mostly just cantered on our circular loop. Harry Greasby in for two lots and then he went racing too.

Big Nasty our only runner of the day at Haydock, one of the local tracks to his owners, Peel Racing Club, and his second visit to the racecourse this week as he was at Doncaster before the meeting was abandoned last Friday (although I’d already decided I wasn’t happy enough with the ground to run him). Big Nasty must be the tallest horse I’ve trained and he’s a jumper in the making as he loves his jumping but we felt he ought to have an outing in a National Hunt Flat race first. Richard Johnson, great friends with the owners, rides and anything he does today is a bonus.

A disappointing day yesterday where we hoped that Ben Buie would run into a place at least in the bumper at Southwell. He travelled well for a long way but the writing was on the wall turning for home and, as his bloods seem A1 and we are sure he didn’t handle the ground and is a genuine good ground horse like many by Presenting are.

A hectic morning sorting out 4 runners tomorrow at two different meetings plus jockeys, transport and another to go cross country schooling too! All go!
