Martin’s Blog 4th November

A very busy morning so Belinda was up early to put the bacon on! Last night the whole team went out for a Fish & Chip Supper at Lucinda Hawkings-Byass’s Kings Arms in Stow on the Wold and it was absolutely delicious so huge thanks to her and her team for looking after us so well. It’s always good to get together outside the yard and I simply can’t reward my team too many times for all the hard work they put into their jobs, day in, day out in often bad weather during the winter, and their dedication which ensures that our horses are looked after so well.

Yesterday Weyburn made a return to racing following injury and well over 400 days off the track. He settled, jumped and travelled well but didn’t finish his race as we’d have hoped so we were relieved when Andrew Tinkler reported a wind issue and we’ll get Ben Brain out to look at him. He’s bright and well this morning.

Simon and Katherine Prowting plus her parents, Jim Tufts, John Digby and Nick Guttridge were in to watch Raving Bonkers on the gallops, give him plenty of cuddles and make a plan for his next run. They are an entertaining bunch and spent the morning here enjoying bacon and champagne in our owners room and chatting to other owners, our team and getting plenty of photos of the other horses too. Then they were off to the Hollow Bottom for lunch…

Jo Stainer, Paul Davis and Jon Hughes were all also here this morning and always great to see these three and lots to discuss and plans to be made!

Sadly we couldn’t then head off to Claire Hardwick’s Open Day as we have headed up to Carlisle with Ocean Eleven and Solstice Star running tomorrow. Issy and Beth went earlier with the horses to ensure that they arrived at the course in daylight with enough time for a good pick of grass and a lead out and to be settled in. The girls are joining us for supper later as are my parents who have also travelled up after missing Cheltenham last weekend.
