Martin’s Blog 4th January

What a stunning morning and a hard frost too. Fortunately these days we all have all weather gallops and this morning the horses cantered on our circular loop and some also up the straight gallop too.

Pat Cornell was in for two lots having arrived early from London – the roads were clear and he made good time and it was good to catch up with him.

Stefan and Gwyn Hibbert were here second lot with some friends too and were thrilled to see how much the yearlings (our foals who had a birthday on 1st Jan!) had grown. Stefan was in Ireland with Paul Davis & Gerry Hogan and watched our Califet colt go through the ring. He was bought from Broadsmill Stud where a certain Champion Court came from and he’s not dissimilar as he’s the same shade of bay with an attractive white stripe on his face – imagine if he was anywhere near as good as him! Only 1 or 2 shares left in him and only 1 left in the Sans Frontiere colt too. They are thriving on the steady stream of visitors they are having and getting braver by the day.

Yesterday Poppy Bridgwater was in to put Buckle Street through the Stalls ahead of his flat run tomorrow at Kempton Park and undoubtedly last chance saloon…he went into them and jumped out of them … but then he loves his work at home anyway so we live in hope of a big run. Fingers crossed.
