Martin’s Blog 4th August

Thank you all so much for the messages after the ‘legend’ (as many of you have described him!) Mr Mafia won on Sunday at Market Rasen. He’s certainly come out of his race, so far, very well indeed and must know he’s won as he’s very full of himself and rightly so. He’s 100% proof that horses don’t have to be running in top class races to be a pleasure to train/own and also to win the hearts of the racing community – he has a huge heart, jumps for fun and always tries his best – who wouldn’t want to own a horse like him?!

Fantastic to watch 16 year old Fern O’Brien, daughter of trainer Fergal, who has often ridden out for us here since she was about 12 with her mother Jelly, riding a winner on her Rules debut at Carlisle on Monday night. Just 2 days after her 16th birthday but watching her you’d never have known as she gave it a cool ride and was very stylish too. She also interview’d very well afterwards. The start of a bright future no doubt. Well done Fern.

We are gripped to the Olympics and well done to the Eventing Team of Oliver Townend, Laura Collett and Tom McEwen who won Gold on Monday. Laura Collett lives locally, rode out here for a while and helps a lot of racehorses with their jumping. Tom McEwen who is based at Gatcombe Park, home to HRH The Princess Royal, won Individual silver too, so Gloucestershire can claim two golds and a silver! Today Show Jumper Ben Maher has won Individual Gold so a fabulous week for Equestrian medals.

Gold!

No racing for another ten days so time to catch up with jobs around the yard plus some of the team are taking the opportunity to have some holiday too.
