Martin’s Blog 3rd June

A very busy morning where we welcomed lots of owners and friends to the yard. Dave and Mary Cull, as ever, were a huge help in helping ensure everyone had bacon sandwiches, champagne, bucks fizz, tea, coffee and also some delicious cakes were available kindly made by another owner Janne Bishop. They never stay around for long!

Paul Davis is over from Switzerland for the weekend so he was here to see his string and Jon & Jack Hughes were also here to watch the horses on the gallops. They were joined by Racing Club Members Matthew Baker and Fiona Gamble and are both mulling over whether they make the next step up the ownership ladder which would be wonderful. Jo Stainer and Rick Allen were in to watch Warren work Sporty Yankee who they both have an interest in. Richard Davies brought his family here to watch Spice Girl work as she has entries in the next week and seems in good form.

Lots of extra riders in this morning including John Nicholson who came in and cantered Viking Mistress who he often rides on Saturdays and has won since he last rode her!

Luckily for me racing is local today at Worcester which meant I had time after the horses had been ridden out to chill out in our fabulous Owners’ Room and didn’t have to rush off. It is such a huge addition to our yard and as well as having the kitchen next door which ensures our guests are fed and watered really well but it also has a great view over our circular loop, turnout paddocks and the view across to David Nicholson’s old gallop which we use for hacking is quite spectacular. Not surprisingly no-one rushes off!

Worcester though for me this afternoon with a debutant Cul De Poule owned by owner/breeders Yvonne & Roger Allsop. Cul De Poule, I’m led to believe, means Parson’s Nose in French! He’s a nice horse who will benefit for the experience but I don’t think will disgrace himself although will be one for the future over obstacles in time.
