Martin’s Blog 3rd July

Mr Mafia … well what can I say?! He really is the horse with the biggest heart and never accepts he’s beaten. Yesterday’s run at Newton Abbot was another belter and he once again went down fighting and despite jumping for fun and running a huge race he was beaten 5 1/2 lengths into second, failing to give a horse half his age 8lbs. I keep saying it but he really does deserve to win soon.

A long day for me as I’d stayed over in Windsor so headed back shortly after 4am to watch the horses do their fast work before heading down to Newton Abbot and back across to Windsor for supper! A good day though and although Freddie wasn’t racing yesterday he’s back in action today and he can’t wait.

James Hobbouse, Suki Smith, Jane Berry, Alina Lill and Rosie & Christopher Peel-Yates in this morning to see the horses on the gallops and to visit Herecomeshogan who is having his summer holiday out in the field. Paul Davis in to ably supervise.

No runners this weekend but we look like we will be busy at Worcester on Monday with probably three runners.

After Mr Mafia’s second place yesterday we remain on an 18% strike rate and still with the best return to £1 stake out of the top 30 Trainers in the country of which we are in 13th place. Our strike rate of horses finishing in the first two is 40%.
