Martin’s Blog 3rd February

A busy couple of days and we schooled a few horses yesterday including Jazzy, Ocean Eleven, Viking Mistress and Ballymountain Boy plus Champion Court as lead horse. All jumped well.

Today James Gibbs and Richard East were in to watch Ben Brain put his fantastic over ground scope on Solstice Star so that we could watch his breathing whilst galloping. It’s fascinating and a great piece of equipment. Ben monitored his heart beat too and we will get full results after he’s analysed them all. He’s been in as good form this season as he was last season and although he’s so much further up in the weights, he should be running better than he is. Mary Hambro brought a nice horse up to work with us and it was good to catch up with her.

Ollie Ryan was in watching Brillare Momento and helping us with our ongoing improvements in the yard. It’s an exciting time and the electricians were in this morning and our new extra office and new yard kitchen are taking shape.

Jon and Jack Hughes watched their string on the gallops and always have huge input when they visit. We aren’t that long off launching our new website with the help of Toby Elford who is part of Leisure Ride Surfaces our sponsor. As with everything here it is a huge team effort.

Some of you may have seen us on ‘This Racing Life’ on Racing UK last night and this morning. Producer Bernard Condron and Presenter Nick Lightfoot came here a couple of weeks ago and although it was foggy their cameraman Phil Clark, as always, has done a wonderful job and it looks as beautiful and atmospheric as it does when it’s not foggy! Do watch again on Sunday morning if you’ve missed it. Our yard is the first one featured on This Racing Life and there is also a feature on Belinda and her Charity Race at York in June at the end of the four Trainers featured. We are delighted with it
