Martin’s Blog 31st May

James Best in today and most of the horses went around the village and just did one canter – an easy day. 3rd Lot James schooled Postponed Legacy over hurdles led by Freddie on Mr Mafia who might run at Bratton Down Point to Point on Sunday – Freddie enjoying his half term and hopefully fitting in a bit of revision!

Not much revision yesterday though as he had his first ride over hurdles on Roger & Yvonne Allsop’s Samtara at Warwick. Louise Chance rode Enforcement for our Racing Club in the same race – these amateur races are few & far between unfortunately. Both of them had a great ride though albeit not troubling the judge – Enforcement was quite a few pounds out of the handicap but jumped for fun and gave Louise a bit more experience which is so important. It was a race too many for Samtara after a busy season and he ran flat, never really travelling, but also jumped well and completed safely.

Prairie Diamond ran a blinder over hurdles for Nigel McAllen ridden by our Conditional Jockey Bradley Roberts to finish 3rd. He pulled his way to the front turning for home but didn’t quite manage to stay there – there will be lots more fun to have with him though I’m sure.

Today we head to Chepstow with Continuance on the flat with young Jack Doughty on board claiming an important 7lbs. Jack was pony racing with Freddie last season and has been booting in the winners on the flat this season so hopefully he will get Continuance to settle and he will run well for his enthusiastic owners.
