A fun bank holiday weekend and yesterday we were flat racing at Southwell – well, pony racing! A great day and Freddie gave his young pony Miss Millfield a great ride and finished 3rd in a decent race so he was rightly thrilled. These kids are learning so much – Carl Llewellyn took them on a course walk before and then goes through the race with them all afterwards in a very thorough debrief and no doubt making lifelong friends.
This morning Caroline Watson and Matt Capp were here to watch Spice Boy and Matt caught up with Dreamsundermyfeet and Robsam. Lovely to see them both and for them to watch the horses on the gallops.
We are off to Newton Abbot with Herecomeshogan and the legend Mr Mafia. Herecomeshogan is partnered by Finn Lambert again and this combination were so unlucky last time out when going really well but falling at the 2nd last. Thankfully both were fine and if he runs a similar race but meets his hurdles well today he should be in the shake up again.
Mr Mafia, what more can be said about him?! Peter Boggis’s 13 year old faces just 2 other rivals today at a track that he enjoys. The trip was too short for him last time he was at Newton Abbot and younger legs ran him off his and he just couldn’t go with them despite jumping for fun. Today’s trip will suit him much better and he’ll hopefully get into a great rhythm and wouldn’t it be fabulous for this old boy to get his head in front again? Sean Bowen will be doing all he can to help I’m sure. Mafia’s fans from all over will be tuning in I’m sure including his new friends from Newlands Care Home in Stow on the Wold that he has visited twice recently! Good luck Mafia and Hogan.
