Another stunning day here and no flies at this time of year so a long day out in the field after they’ve been ridden for the horses still in training without being bothered too. Great to turn those out for their summer holidays too – lush grass and again no flies.
Yesterday Belinda and I went to The Cotswold School at Bourton on the Water to give a talk on Horse Racing to a group of students. It’s something we are keen to do more of – not only to help children understand how a racing yard works but also to encourage children into the industry. Belinda has already been into Chipping Campden School but this was my first talk to school children and Deputy Principal Phil White was very grateful that we’d taken the time to do so.
We did feel that we were preaching to the converted a little with the sons & daughters of Trainers, Assistant Trainers, BHA Officials and a sister of a current jockey too! However, it was fun and hopefully some learnt from it and special thanks to Daisy O’Brien, youngest daughter of Fergal and Jelly, for her brilliant questions! There were plenty of good questions from the rest too.
The end of April already and that weird week in between jump seasons – the season re-starts on Saturday. Still horses in and some ready to go this weekend and into next week so physio Maggie Turner was in today to check a few who are ready to run.
