Martin’s Blog 2nd May

Not much down time for us here during the one week of no racing as we’ve got the busiest team we’ve ever had at this time of year ready to run. We’ve certainly had more horses in training over the spring than normal but also because of the awful weather there are plenty we’ve not run who should have had their runs and been on their holidays now! Today was horrendous again – such heavy rain so the team did a wonderful job braving the conditions riding out and then nothing was turned out as the rain was horizontal.

We always do plenty of schooling here and our new improved schooling grounds is looking fantastic. Today we schooled Pirate Look, Young Phoenix, Matravers, Sporty Yankee, Lerichi Belle and Mr Mafia with Champion Court leading when required.

Claire Hardwick and Chris Dee brought Creepy up at lunchtime to school over the fences ahead of his possible tilt at Cheltenham’s Hunter Chase evening on Friday. He looks really well and he jumped for fun but needs to beat the ballot to get a run.

Still plenty of improvements going on at the yard. The concrete mixer arrived today so thanks to our landlord for supporting us – exciting times – it will be back again tomorrow. We’ve been promised sunshine from now on over the weekend so let’s hope they are right – the team here have battled through the longest hardest winter we’ve had for a long time and deserve a long, dry summer!
