Martin’s Blog 2nd June

After such hot weather last week it has been a welcome break for the horses, and the ground, that we have had a few heavy storms and last night we had 10mm here. Thankfully Southwell didn’t have any overnight, although have had some this morning but we are hopeful that the ground remains good for Duke of Luckley in the first. He’s partnered by Freddie and will need the run after a long break and will also need to bounce back as he has pulled up on his last three runs and hasn’t completed since July. He does love Southwell though with form figures of 132111 in his last six outings there so we hope he’ll enjoy it and run well.

We had two runners on the flat last night at a very wet Wolverhampton where the rain was biblical. We got absolutely soaked! It was good to get a run into The Harrison’s Retro Rocket who made his racecourse debut and we learnt more about him last night. We also ran Happier for our Racing Club and she was returning from a break and, despite an unhelpful draw, probably ran better than the bare fore suggested. Dougie Costello rode both and, as you would expect, gave us some valuable feedback.

Some of our horses have now been on their holidays for a couple of months and, whilst some will be staying out for longer, some are starting to come back into the newly painted part of the yard. The team have been hard at work steam cleaning, painting and doing all the general summer tidying up jobs which are vital to keep the yard looking as smart as possible.
