Wet here as predicted last night and this morning but desperately needed so won’t complain. Not much fun for the team to work in though.
Work morning and Warren Marston in to ride work. We worked Big Nasty, Finnick Glory, Brillare Momento, Cut & Run, Robsam, Ben Buie, Pomme De Nuit, Young Phoenix, Cotswold Prince on the grass and Reve, Oscar World, Buckle Street, Sarastota Star and Matravers did a swinging canter up the grass. All the rest cantered on the carpet gallop. Lovely ground riding really well.
Two runners today. Primogeniture, now leased to the Racing Club from Sharon & Graham Lovett, reverts to the Flat at Wolverhampton under Tom Marquand and we are hoping this will rejuvenate him as he’s been disappointing.
Whilst at Hereford (not Ludlow as mentioned yesterday and spotted by the most eagle eyed of you!) Debden Bank makes his racecourse debut under Sam Twiston-Davies in the bumper. He’s a horse we’ve always liked a lot and is one for the future but we are still hopeful he’ll run a very nice race today. It will be interesting to see how he handles the rain softened ground too.
Yesterday I was very disappointed with Somewhere To Be at Lingfield as I was certain we couldn’t have got him any better at home. However, the pace was fast from the start and I felt that as soon as he couldn’t get out in front he failed to enjoy himself and it certainly wasn’t the performance we know he is so capable of. Frustrating animals sometimes and a long trip home. However, we are discussing different ideas and we know he’s much better than that – it was simply too bad to be true. He’s A1 this morning so onwards and upwards.
