No sign of rain and although still quite chilly overnight it’s pretty mild by day and it won’t have to warm up much more before we turn the horses out without rugs on in the day.
Just a quiet cantering morning today and the horses looking fresh and well.
Two runners at Warwick in the bumper later this afternoon. Hot to Trot Jumping’s Mello Yello has already had one start in a bumper. She didn’t enjoy the ground and we have given her some time over the winter to strengthen up. She may not be a bumper horse but we’ve already taken her jumping and she seems a natural but she does need to show us a bit more today before we go hurdling with her. Harry Stock rides.
Samtara, a homebred owned by Roger & Yvonne Allsop is making his racecourse debut. His dam is an unraced sister to Georgian King who won for us a few years ago and he is nicely bred by Kayf Tara as his name suggests. His future will be over obstacles and whilst we are hoping for an encouraging run today it is quite competitive and we’ll know far more about him after today. William Kennedy rides him.
The race at Market Rasen wasn’t run to suit Back on the Lash yesterday – he was a bit too keen early on with such a steady early pace and as he was so keen Richard Johnson wanted to drop him out and switch him off to ensure he got the trip which was further than he’s run over before. They got first run on him but he is tough and genuine and flew the last two to finish 4th and I’m sure was a shade unlucky to not finish closer. Richard likes him a lot though and we’ve got a few nice races to choose from for his next run.
