Martin’s Blog 28th February

Doncaster today with Big Nasty running in the first race – The 888Sport Novices’ Handicap Chase over 3 miles. He ran a fantastic race last time at Uttoxeter and I thought he was going to win, eventually going down by 1/2 a length conceding 6lbs. Sean Quinlan takes the ride today and, although it’s competitive, I’m hopeful of another big run from him. It would be great to get his head in front soon!

The horses have run well all week and yesterday was no exception with Sarasota Star running another solid race to finish 3rd at Ludlow under Patrick Cowley. His jumping was much improved and he’s getting more professsional each time. We were very pleased with him and also hope he’s one that will be getting his head in front soon too!

Work morning in awful weather and we worked Beneagles, Run A Rig, Mozzaro, Kazontherazz, Black Panther, Black Prince, Dreamsundermyfeet and Capital Force. The rest either cantered up the long gallop or on our loop.

Paul Davis was in for the morning, farrier Nick Patridge and vet Jeremy Swan too so a busy morning. I was keen to be here for the vet so haven’t gone to Doncaster but I’d also have been in a bit of trouble had I gone and had got caught up in Friday traffic as we have a birthday weekend planned! Freddie has a rare birthday tomorrow – he’s a Leapling so is either 12 years old or 3 years old, whichever way you look at it! So huge excitement in our household and Happy Birthday Freddie for tomorrow!
