Martin’s Blog 28th August

Belinda & I had a wonderful day on Saturday celebrating the wedding of Emily Churchley and Jason Medcroft. It was a fun day and the sun shone on them which obviously was the icing on the cake and those of you on social media may have seen a video of Belinda and Paul Hughes (Racing Club Member & our local Electrician) hurtling down the Giant bouncy slide! Although Belinda needed a little encouragement, Paul didn’t and both should have known better but they caused plenty of amusement for onlookers! Racing was also well represented and it was great to catch up with so many friends.

Yesterday owner Jo Stainer called in during the morning for a catch up and, when he learned that our old warrior Any Currency, who he part-owned, was making his Team Chase debut at the Warwickshire Team Chase later that afternoon, he revised his plans and went to watch. Intended partner Dickie Barrett unfortunately dislocated his shoulder the day before so Joe Hill, who’d schooled him before, took the reins. He reportedly took to it well and was the 3rd and counting score that put the team into 2nd place so a great debut and we are delighted.

I took the family yesterday afternoon and evening to The Big Feastival which is only a few miles from us and is something we’ve not attended before. We’re glad we did as there were plenty of friends there, any food you could have wished for and plenty of music and Madness to finish the evening. Perfect weather and we loved it.

Today owner Paul Davis was here from Switzerland and he rode out Cotswold Prince, a lovely 2 year old who he part owns, and thoroughly enjoyed that – another tick off his bucket list! John Nicholson was also in to ride out and yesterday marked the 11 year anniversary of his father, trainer David Nicholson’s, passing – how those 11 years feel to have flown by.

Chairman and owner Jon Hughes and wife Jack were also on the gallops although on two feet instead of four! We all finished off the morning with breakfast at the Coach & Horses in Longborough which was delicious and saved Belinda juggling kids, riding out and cooking bacon just for the morning!

No runners but good luck to Sam Bishop, who regularly helps out here, who is riding in a dressage competition today and to Harley Cornock who is racing his car – good luck and stay safe Harley!!!
