We’ve had a busy few days although last weekend we were fortunate enough to be guests of Paul Davis, who runs our Racing Club and many of our Partnerships and who works and lives in Switzerland. He invited us over for the weekend so we managed a few days of skiing – our last weekend there with him sadly as he is returning to the UK in late summer.
We’ll really miss our wonderful weekends with him where he not only welcomes us into his home and is a wonderful host, chauffeur and fabulous ski guide, he also persuades me down slopes I don’t think I can get down (whilst the kids just point their skis downhill and don’t think twice!) although I have been getting much braver!! However, we are very excited that he will be able to spend more time at the yard and be able to go racing more too so every cloud….!
Yesterday William Kennedy was in and we schooled quite a few of the horses and this morning everything just did one or two canters.
We were so disappointed with Ben Buie and Dreamsundermyfeet’s runs in the Bumper at Newbury on Saturday and they are both going for overground scopes this morning to hopefully find out what is stopping them. Dreamer gargled from early on in the race and Ben Buie was going well until he stopped far too quickly turning for home. Both horses are lovely horses for the future but we need to find out what is going on. Matt Capp is coming here to accompany me and it will be good to catch up with him.
Racing today and Back on the Lash goes to Market Rasen under Richard Johnson who was in the saddle when they won last time at Ludlow over 2 miles. It’s a step up in trip but we think that should suit him and are hopeful of another big run.
Matravers was going to run on the flat but he’s got a stone bruise so misses that engagement. We’ve had a frustrating time of late with him so hopefully he’ll gain compensation soon.
