Martin’s Blog 27th April

Some storm last night and still very windy here this morning. Simon & Kath Prowting braved the weather to watch Raving Bonkers on the gallops. I’m not sure we have a more enthusiastic couple than Simon & Kath and they always arrive with so much energy! They love coming to watch their horse on the gallops and getting to know the whole team here too which is what it’s all about.

The horses mostly worked yesterday so just routine canters today and, with the wind so strong, it’s not a day to be turned out so a rare day in their stables. Most yards don’t have the luxury of daily turnout so ours are very lucky indeed.

We have one runner today – not at Sandown but on the flat at Leicester. Matravers runs at 3.55pm in a 1m 2f Handicap and is partnered by George Wood. He has won a maiden at Leicester before but we’ve struggled to find the key to him and he needs to be much quicker out of the stalls than he has been recently. Great for our Racing Club though to have such variety with our horses – Primogeniture was 3rd over fences at Fontwell in the week and now Matravers runs on the flat. Still spaces available in the Club which is just £500 for the year (or monthly @ £42) and members have had a fun season so will hopefully have another good day today.

Big prices at Cheltenham’s Sale yesterday – strong trade and good to see British Point to Pointers making decent money too.

Yesterday we welcomed Graham and Sarah Morsman for a Morning on the Gallops with breakfast booked through CD Tours as a present for Sarah’s Birthday. A fun morning and they seemed to really enjoy themselves. Thankfully the fog that blighted the view 1st lot soon lifted and by 2nd lot Graham & Sarah could enjoy the stunning Cotswold view as they watched the horses work up the gallops. A great present idea – albeit an obviously biased view!!
