Martin’s Blog 26th May

Uttoxeter bound today and any extra rain would help the chances of both of our runners. Both are partnered by Sean Bowen with our first runner, Oneforthefairgreen, owned by Stephen Sugden and our second runner, Release The Kraken, owned by his wife Helen – good luck to them both.

We have had plenty of visitors over the past few days with Matthew Baker, Anna Walmesley, Chris Dee, Jane Berry, Rosemary Peel-Yates, Leigh & Sarah Powell and Paul Davis all in to watch their horses on the gallops and fill them full of carrots too! We enjoy having visitors and the horses certainly do as well.

With Harry Atkins having moved on to pastures new, our new Conditional Jockey Bradley Roberts had his first ride for us on Ben Buie last week and he was making his seasonal debut. He ran at his beloved Hereford where he had previously run three times and won all three but it was a competitive race and he went off at 20-1. However, he outran his odds under a good ride from Bradley to finish 3rd and delight his enthusiastic syndicate.

Tomorrow Another Day Out heads to Huntingdon over fences under Sam Twiston-Davies. She was disappointing over hurdles at Market Rasen last Thursday so we are hoping fences and half a mile further will suit her better. She has won a point to point and schooled well this morning so I am hoping she can put her Market Rasen run plus her Stratford Chasing debut both behind her and bounce back to her Sandown Park form.

Before I head across to Huntingdon, I’m at Chaddesley Corbett point to point where Freddie rides Sametegal in the opening Novices Riders race. Sametegal has been a star for him this season, along with Mr Mafia, teaching him so much and even when he unseated him back at Chaddesley last month he learnt plenty from that unseat. Sametegal has won and finished 2nd this season and it would be great to post another solid run on what will be Sametegal’s final run. Any extra rain there will suit him. Freddie’s in with a shout for Leading Novice Rider in our Area and Sammy’s in with a shout for Leading Family Horse so any points gained tomorrow will help them massively but he’s had a fabulous season and anything else is a bonus.
