Martin’s Blog 26th June

It was very hot at Newton Abbot yesterday but they did a great job ensuring the horses were looked after and cooled off as soon as they had run.

Shinji ran a belter in the Amateur Riders’s Hurdle to finish 2nd and back up his recent win with another good performance and Herecomeshogan blew the cobwebs away in the same race to finish 7th on his seasonal debut. He’ll come on a lot for that run.

Ben Buie couldn’t dominate in a bigger field than ideal for him and Sean eventually pulled him up. Although it didn’t happen for him yesterday Sean remains confident he remains competitive and we’ll look for another opportunity for him. He does need to dictate ideally so with so much pace yesterday it wasn’t ideal. Postponed Legacy was still a bit green on his hurdling debut but, thankfully, put in a much improved performance compared to his run on the flat and showed a good attitude to finish 5th. There will be loads more to come from him and he may still need another run for the penny to properly drop with him.

Today we took Prairie Diamond (Bradley) and Don Rafael (Freddie) to Fergal O’Brien’s yard to use their all weather schooling strip. Fergal has been using our gallops regularly for away days so it was great to be able to go there and give these two horses an away day and a school. Both jumped very well.

Worcester today with Pike Road making his debut for us in the bumper for new owner Roger Harrison. He’s finished 2nd in a point to point and goes nicely at home so it would be great if he could run into a place today. Freddie rides.

Dreamsundermyfeet makes his seasonal debut for our Racing Club under Bradley Roberts. He’s a burley horse who usually needs his first run of the season but we’ve done as much as we can with him and he returns over hurdles before going chasing probably next time.
