Martin’s Blog 26th July

Mike & Mella Wright, Jon Hughes and Paul Davis all in this morning to watch the horses on the gallops including some working. They included Codey Jones, Borderline, Culverwell, Windy Cove and Kalibrate whilst Genovese and Forecast did a swinging canter.

Worcester tonight and our Martin Keighley Racing Club sponsor the first race which Ben Buie, who runs in the same colours but is owned by Martin Keighley Racing Partnership 10 and, with Sean Bowen at Perth, is partnered by Sam Twiston-Davies. Sam won on him at Leicester last season when he became the horse to smash our best ever total in a season in great style. Hopefully the recent rainfall on top of watered ground won’t make the going too easy for him and, if he does run, we hope he runs a blinder – wouldn’t it be lovely to win our own sponsored race?!

We have a huge gathering at Worcester as we revert to our Annual Racing Club Picnic in the centre of the course. Much fun will be had by all I’m sure and we want no rain please. However our last Racing Club Picnic, now 3 years ago, was actually held at Worcester in the pouring rain but a fabulous time was had by all as Team Keighley don’t let a bit of rain get in the way of us having a good time – we had a huge football match and plenty to eat and drink! Looking forward to it.

Our other runner is Chenery who arrived from Ireland about a month ago. She’s won once over hurdles but has recently running over fences but reverts to hurdles today. It’s a learning curve and I’ll be delighted if she just runs a solid race as we are learning about her all the time.
