What a glorious week of weather – totally unseasonal and not great for the ground at racecourses but the horses are loving being turned out without rugs on and it does wonders for the spirits of the team! I’ve also been able to seed and roll the schooling ground and gallops – unheard of in February.
One runner today – Oscar World (Leighton Aspell) at Leicester in a Mares’ Chase. At the end of declarations at 10am there were only two declared so I was very happy but sadly two more came in and they are both more fancied runners which is a little frustrating but that’s life! She seems in good form and schooled well yesterday so we are hoping she steps up from her chasing debut last time. She’s been disappointing but has had a few problems so has excuses and it would be fantastic if she could show us today on the track what she has always shown us at home.
Work morning and we worked Sarasota Star, Matravers, Cloud Formation, Enforcement, Raving Bonkers, Brillare Momento, Ben Buie, Dreamsundermyfeet, Debden Bank, Back on the Lash, Cotswold Prince, Miss Antipova, Jeans Genie and the Kayf Tara Gelding. The rest either did a swinging canter or just cantered.
The weather is due to change tomorrow and, whilst we’ve loved the sun, we really could do with some decent rain and get back to a normal February.
