Martin’s Blog 25th April

Sunshine and a beautiful morning greeted us this morning. Not sure how long it will last. We do feel so fortunate that the first sounds of the morning are the birds signing loudly (and only sounds until the boys wake up or the yard becomes a hive of activity!) – it’s so peaceful and I’m sure the horses must love it too. Tranquil.

A quiet day for the horses this morning apart and all exercising on our circular loop apart from Champion Court and Matravers who have had a spin up over the hurdles.

We’ve recently had our gallops waxed ahead of the summer by our sponsor, Leisure Ride Surfaces, to ensure the gallop remains a fabulous surface without any dust. It is no surprise to me that I am often called by other trainers enquiring about our carpet gallops as it really is first class. The wax is a must too as without it the surface will get too dusty and even watering regularly isn’t as good as having it waxed. Do get in touch with Ross or Toby at Leisure Ride if you are interested in one of the best surfaces I’ve seen – don’t just take my word for it either – speak to any of the jockeys who ride on it.

Although the season is nearing the end we still have lots left to run. Some will be starting their season and going on through the summer whilst others will be having one or two more runs and then being turned away for their holiday. It’s an exciting time of year with plenty of planning into the next season and our diaries are getting full of meetings as we get together with our landlord, the vets, Kay from our feed supplier Spillers, Ollie Garner from RSN Services who provides us with our haylage and bedding and any other industry professionals that we feel will help us improve on everything we do here.

Our in house 5 to follow is also drawing to a close….who will be the winners?!
