Summer has arrived and it is glorious in the Cotswolds today and those on their summer holidays definitely enjoying the sun on their backs. Those in training have been out in their paddocks today in the sunshine too, all looking very relaxed.
After such a great Sunday, Monday evening at Market Rasen didn’t go to plan with Redbridge Rambler overheating when beaten over hurdles and poor Herecomeshogan falling on his chasing debut. Thankfully both him and Brian Hughes got up and are ok albeit sore. Hogan is having a few days in the field and plenty of physio and TLC from Ernie too.
Another Evening Meeting tonight – our 2nd of four this week – as we head to Southwell with two runners. David Maughan’s Spanish Present runs in the opening chase and will have a visor on for the first time in the hope that it will sharpen him up a little and focus his mind. Briezh Alko runs in the 3m 2f Chase for David Parry. Hopefully the ground will be decent enough for him to take his chance as although he’d prefer softer ground, the trip will suit and likes the track winning well over hurdles in March. Sean Bowen partners both horses.
We met up with Peter & Jane Boggis last night for a delicious supper in Malmesbury. Always a fun evening with the Boggis’s we hope to have lots more fun with their veteran, Mr Mafia, this season who is back in training and as happy as ever. At 14 years young, he’ll tell us when he needs to retire but at the moment he’s thoroughly enjoying his work at home.
Happy Birthday to Lucjan Wirth, our wonderful Yardman who can literally fix anything without any fuss at all!
