Summer has left us it seems for a few days – after a bright first lot our weather has turned overcast with a few showers so back to thick turnouts and hoods for all of the horses turned out for the afternoon.
Work morning and warren Marston in to ride out a couple of lots and Harry Stock’s sister Abi in first lot too before heading off to her day job at Stratford Racecourse. We worked Enforcement, By Sulamani, Primogeniture, Solstice Star, Debden Bank, Lord Condi, Matravers, Reve, Sporty Yankee, Weyburn, Mr Mafia, Cut and Run, Pirate Look, Lady Vitesse, Sugar Storm, Hartshorne Abbie, Peeping Penny and Cotswold Prince and Ask Alice did a swinging canter. Some of the rest are now being let down and ready to go on their summer holidays so sunshine would be nice please!
Great to have Forecast back in training after a year off with a leg injury. He’s been with Claire Hart in Adlestrop but was ready to come back and Harley, who manages to put to sleep plenty of our more exhuberant horses, is doing a good job with him too.
The grass is growing like mad so the mowers and strimmers are back in action. A trip to Pete at Dorn Hill with two that need mending!
No runners today but entries for the rest of the week and the season ends on Saturday with Richard Johnson crowned Champion Jockey for the third year running and deservedly so. Yesterday he was at Hexham riding a double (one of them was for our Chairman Jon Hughes and his Owners for Owners Syndicate with the exciting looking Melekhov) and then straight across to Sedgefield evening meeting to make it a treble for the day winning the last at 8.10pm. Today’s a new day and no doubt he could have been up early riding out somewhere but he got to Ludlow to win the first too!
