Martin’s Blog 23rd May

A quiet morning at the yard this morning and horses just doing a couple of routine steady canters. The glorious weather continues and the horses out in the fields are loving the first few weeks of their holidays basking in the sunshine.

We secured an exciting purchase by Gerry Hogan for us yesterday – Lot 214 is coming back to us. He’s a three year old by Yeats out of Change of Plan and looks a lovely sort. In fact he is a half brother to a lovely youngster we’ve just partnered out – Ben Buie – who is by Presenting. We like him a lot so we are very excited to get his half brother who will be broken in and he will then be on the market. There are a few we like at Doncaster today so do get in touch with me if you are interested in looking at or bidding on anything.

We’re delighted that Graeme & Sharon Lovett have agreed to buy Primogeniture who has finished 3rd over hurdles twice lately for our Martin Keighley Racing Club. He’s a lovely genuine horse who can mix running on the flat and over hurdles over the summer and has the size and scope to jump a fence too. We met Graeme & Sharon a few years ago in Jersey through Mark Boothright, who they share Ludlow winner Back on the Lash with, and they’ve remained great friends so we are thrilled they now also have a horse by themselves and we hope he is very successful for them.

We have one runner this evening at Southwell – Lady Vitesse – under the Champion Jockey Richard Johnson. The favourite is now a non runner and she seems in great form and I think she’ll run a massive race.
