What a star Mr Mafia has been for us this season. Yesterday at Stratford we upped him in class again and, carrying 9lbs more, although he didn’t manage to win he ran a blinder to finish 3rd and delight us all. He’s given John & Claire Abernethy, Peter and Jane Boggis, Harry Stock and all of our team a summer to remember – not forgetting the fact that John Abernethy has not had a winner in over 40 years of racehorse ownership and he can now boast 4 winners! Mr Mafia ate all his feed and trotted up sound this morning and is looking forward to a holiday now. He’s done us all proud and has won over four times the amount he cost in his five runs – what a story.
Primogeniture was disappointing and maybe the heat got to him. We are getting him scoped this morning and will fully check him out – puzzling as he usually travels much better than he did, his bloods were right and he was working well. We’d hoped for a big run yesterday but they are animals and aren’t machines which is why when it does all fall into place it makes it even more exciting!
Abi Stock, Wendy Rolleson and the team at Stratford Racecourse once again looked after us superbly and fantastic to see so many owners and friends at the races yesterday – such a popular course on such a lovely day.
Usual busy Monday morning with our vet Jeremy Swan and farrier Nick Partridge in. Ridiculously hot too….
Bay Dude will run tonight at Windsor under Robert Winston. Another tall ask but more experience for him. He’ll find life easier when he is in a handicap. Hoping he will settle earlier than he did last time. I’m sure Windsor will be packed.
