Martin’s Blog 23rd August

A very busy few days and apologies for no Blog but the day simply hasn’t been long enough! We’ve nearly finished our carpet loop next to the yard and are busy putting up white railing both sides of it and rolling the surface too. It’s looking fantastic and is a very exciting addition to the facilities here.

The horses seem well and we worked plenty yesterday with the flat horses working up the grass. Unfortunately poor Kieran had a fall and has damaged his knee so we wish him a very speedy recovery.

Andrew Tinkler and Harry Stock were in this morning. Max Comley has helped us riding out all summer but is now getting busy with the point to pointers so he’ll just be coming in on weekends when he can from now on. He’s been a great help and rides very well so we’ll miss him.

Mark Caswell in this morning – he’s our Pest Controller and we’ve a variety of pests to keep on top of and Mark does a great job. He’ll be back in to ride work on Saturday too hopefully.

Photographer Helen Richmond was here too taking photos of the team, the yard and the facilities and the boys too so a full on but fun few hours. She does a fabulous job and the photos we saw look great so I can’t wait to see the finished shots.

Rob Davies and Karen Price called in for a catch up en route to see their lovely horse My Lad Percy who is at Claire Hardwick’s yard in Adlestrop. We are looking forward to having him back in the yard.

Busy tonight with runners at Worcester and Kempton Park. Thady Quil (Andrew Tinkler) and Cottersrock (Richard Johnson) go to Worcester and Sporty Yankee (Tom Queally) runs at Kempton. Thady needs to be on his A game to beat the favourite in his race and if things fall into place with Cottersrock then he should run well. Things haven’t been straight forward for Sporty Yankee recently with a few niggly problems so we’d very much like him to bounce back to something like his best form and reproduce what he shows us at home.

Belinda and the boys meanwhile are off to support Cheltenham Town who play West Ham at home in the second round of the Carabao Cup. I’ll be back from Worcester in time to watch on Sky Sports so good luck to the Robins!

Good luck also to Miranda Theobald who is at Aintree Racecourse Retrained Racehorse Championships with Always Bold, who won many races for us, having qualified for a number of ROR classes. No-one is more dedicated than Miranda and we wish her well this week.
