Martin’s Blog 22nd April

We are at two meetings today with Shinji our first runner at Kempton Park for Louise & Andrew Jones. He is partnered by Jonjo O’Neill Jr and should appreciate the better ground. We then have our first flat runner of the year when Continuance runs at Windsor over 1m 3 1/2f. He is partnered by Kieran Shoemark and should appreciate the step up in trip. He’s done plenty of work at home and will hopefully put up a bold show.

Last week was a busy one with plenty of runners and we were particularly pleased at Cheltenham with Zestful, who finished 4th on her return from a layoff and we can now build on that I’m sure. She may have one more run over hurdles or could go straight on the flat. We were also delighted with Zarhanya who ran a belter on her racecourse debut to finish 7th and not beaten far in the bumper at Cheltenham. An exciting future ahead for her.

We were point to pointing over the weekend. Sametegal at Chaddesley Corbett on Saturday was running a good race until unseating Freddie three out – both are fine. Harry and I then jumped in the car to meet Matt Capp (Chelsea Fan) in Pinner and jumped on the train to Wembley where David Parry had kindly given Harry (a City fan) and myself tickets to the Semi Final of the FA Cup. A great game and we were happier than Matt on the way home! Fakenham yesterday and Mr Mafia loved the fast ground but not the tight track there. They finished 5th of 6 and he continues to give Freddie a wonderful education, as does Sametegal. He’s learning all the time and, whilst most racehorses are retired at 15 these two seem to be loving their time in the point to point field teaching their young jockey!

Good luck to everyone later today, fingers crossed they both run good races.
