Martin’s Blog – 21st June

No luck at Uttoxeter yesterday but they both came home safe and sound. The race didn’t play to Lady Vitesse’s strengths, she needs to come off a decent gallop and they went no pace and slowed it up again on the final circuit and she was then caught flat footed when they sprinted for home before staying on again after the last. Richard Johnson was adamant it wasn’t as disappointing as it looked and she will have gained confidence from knowing she could breathe yesterday too.

The feedback the top jockeys give you is so valuable – their years of experience do show through. I thought Richard gave Morning Herald a lovely ride too – filling her with confidence on her chasing debut. She’s not shown much since returning from a leg injury so it was almost last chance saloon and although she only finished 3rd of 4 I liked the way she warmed up into the race and her attitude yesterday and feel sure, as Richard does, we can build on that.

Weyburn runs later today at Ffos Las over fences and with Andrew Tinkler in the saddle. Andrew felt that Towcester didn’t suit him last time and that he was feeling like the winner until not handling the hill therefore the flatter Ffos Las track should suit. He seems well at home and the physios are happy with him too so we are hopeful of a good run from him today for his patient owners.

Meanwhile a Happy 49th Wedding Anniversary to David and Mary Cull today – Dave is more generally known as ‘Gorgeous Dave’ and his wife Mary is equally gorgeous and they are both a big part of our team here helping us out in many ways as well as being in our Racing Club.
