Martin’s Blog 20th May

Jamie and Issy back from holiday today and plenty of extra riders in too including Warren, Max Comley and Harry Stock.

We worked Ask Alice, Spice Girl, Lerichi Belle, Fairmount, Twentyoneblackjack, Cul De Poule, The Kvilleken and Thady Quil. The rest just did a swinging canter 2nd time or just cantered.

Racing Club Members Hilary Long, Fiona Gamble and Sheila Lindsay were in second lot and delighted to see their favourite Buckle Street back in the yard. Belinda hopes to ride him on her big race day at York which is now only 4 weeks away – time is flying by! He’s had a holiday since leaving here to go back to Mary Hambro’s during April and the beginning of May so it’s now all systems go to get him match fit again. They also came out 3rd lot to watch Freddie on his new racing/pony club pony Bubbles who is a bit bigger and hopefully faster than Arthur and, most importantly, been there, got the T-shirt and is safe.

We are off to Yorkshire this afternoon to have a family birthday meal tonight with my parents so I’ll sadly not be at Uttoxeter to watch Dr Dunraven make his debut for us. He’s a horse who has had a few problems and arrived from Philip Hobbs hoping that a smaller yard and a change of scenery may help too. A stunning looking horse who is entered in the sales next week but we are hoping he likes his new regime and runs well enough to justify to his owners to stay here.

Tomorrow we run Brass Monkey and Young Phoenix at Stratford so we’ll be heading back home via Stratford. Both horses seem in good form so hopefully Monkey builds on his 3rd place last time out and Young Phoenix has a nice introduction to racing – he’s a lovely looking horse and it will be interesting to see how he runs.
