Back on the Lash ran a blinder yesterday at Market Rasen under Richard Johnson to finish a good 2nd over hurdles at Ludlow. Richard is convinced his Cheltenham disappointment wasn’t down to him being wrong at that time but simply because he made a bad mistake early on and it totally knocked his confidence. He was full of confidence yesterday, jumping and travelling well and he will now have a short holiday before coming back towards the end of the summer. Richard assures us he’s got the scope to jump fences too despite being small.
Today we head to Ludlow with three runners. Primogeniture (Conor Shoemark) runs in the 2 mile Novices’ Handicap Chase which has only attracted 5 declarations but they are all decent opponents. He’d probably need others to not run to form for him to be in the mix but hopefully he’ll run well.
We then have two runners in the Conditional Jockeys’ race at the end of the day. Raving Bonkers (Harry Stock) and Matravers (Jason Dixon) are against each other and both may struggle to beat the favourite however Raving Bonkers only needs to improve a little on his last run to be in with a decent chance. Matravers is probably at last chance saloon – one Racing Club Member did suggest he’s had more come back than Frank Sinatra! He needs to impress us today!
Happy Birthday to friend and owner Zoe Stock who is also the dam of our Conditional Jockey Harry. Harry won on Mr Mafia at Stratford a year ago today – it would be pretty special if he managed to have a winner on his mum’s birthday for the second year running.
