Martin’s Blog 20th March

Winning owners Jon & Jack Hughes were here to greet their winner Enforcement and collect all their goodies from Plumpton. They were thrilled with their trophy and that “Digger” was in good form and clearly pleased with himself.

Just a quiet morning so most the horses just doing a couple of canters. Deb Butler was in to ride a couple of lots including Mozzaro, who she has a share in, and to clip as well. Whilst she was in another ex David Nicholson employee from the Condicote days, Mark Caswell, called in. Mark not only rides work for us regularly but is our Pest Controller and does a super job.

3rd Lot we took Mello Yello (Harley) and Raving Bonkers (Harry) jumping at Jon Trice-Rolph’s yard. Raving Bonkers hasn’t been as fluent as ours usually are and was a rare faller for us two runs back so we thought it would do him good to go again and Mello Yello was leaving the ground for the first time. It’s so good for these horses to leave the yard and have a lorry journey as well as a schooling session to give them plenty to think about. As I’ve said before, Jon not only teaches the horses but he teaches the jockeys too so it is a huge benefit for the whole team and a valuable learning session today.

This afternoon was spent spiking and rolling the grass gallops so that the horses can work on as near to perfect ground in the morning. They are in good condition.

No runners until Saturday where half brothers Ben Buie and Dreamsundermyfeet run against each other in the Goffs Sales Bumper at Newbury.

Finally a very Happy Birthday to my Asssistant Trainer Foxy!
