Martin’s Blog 20th June

Heading to Worcester today with two runners – Debden Bank for Martin Keighley Racing Partnership 6 and Pay The Woman for Foxtrot Racing. Both horses won last time out – Debden Bank won over fences at Southwell under today’s jockey James Best by 11 lengths back in December. Both myself and Ernie, who rides him out, looks after him and is in charge of the veterinary side of the yard, weren’t happy with him following that run. He was only occasionally lame and many may have carried on with him and run him again however we knew that wasn’t him and when the vet checked him out thoroughly he found a hairline fracture of his fetlock joint. It was a relief to find something, a relief that it was treatable with rest and a huge relief we’d not been tempted to carry on with him. He seems in good form but I’ll have a good walk around the track as they don’t seem to have had the same rain as we have so I’ll not risk him on quicker ground.

The same is true for Pay The Woman who won well on her debut for us and for Foxtrot at Ffos Las last time out, also under James Best. She’s a lovely looking big strong mare and I’ll need it to be genuinely good ground for her to run. She was a little green last time but seems to have come on from that run at home so if she’s improved for her win then she should be in the mix again today with the favourite looking well treated and a hard task to beat.

Happy Father’s Day to my father Trevor and my late Father in law John. The boys have remembered although have opted to watch the racing from home whilst also keeping up with the footie and the F1 and no doubt playing football outside too! Freddie has exams this week at school so needs to do some revision too – not sure how much of that will happen!

Mum & Dad – nearly a year ago since we saw them.
