The early morning frost went as quickly as it arrived so we have been able to turn all the horses out in their paddocks which they love! Most find a puddle of mud in which to roll in too!
Jon Hughes was in yesterday morning to watch Kalibrate, Sarasota Star and Sojourn do their fast work on the gallops 1st and 2nd lot, both partnered by James Best. Most of the rest of the horses he is involved in are enjoying their mid winter break in the field. Great to catch up with Jon who hasn’t been here as much as usual due to covid – it’s fantastic to start getting back to normal. My boys were thrilled to go to school without masks today – not sure I’d have enjoyed wearing a mask all day like they have had to do.
Be Thankful unfortunately banged her leg yesterday so was a non runner at Plumpton which was frustrating for our Racing Club as many were able to go yesterday. Some still went and hopefully have a good day out at a track that isn’t that easy to get to from here but is a lovely friendly track once you are there.
With lots of the horses out in the field we are light on runners at the moment but with them having a break now it will hopefully ensure that many of them can run on into the summer months as long as the ground remains safe enough.
We have welcomed a new member of staff to our team this week with James Robottom joining us and hoping to turn Conditional after he’s completed the relevant courses. He has a ride today at Ludlow in a Hunter Chase so good luck James.
