Martin’s Blog 1st September

September already and two runners at Newton Abbot this evening at their twilight fixture.

Mr Mafia heads back there with Richard Johnson on board in a competitive race and, although he seems in cracking form, his consistency means that he never gets a break from the Handicapper! He so deserves to get his head in front soon after so many solid efforts and I’m sure he should be there or thereabouts again.

Raving Bonkers’ owners have been so patient so they deserve a good run as he’s not been the luckiest horse. He seems well too and it would be fantastic if he could run into a place.

Frustratingly Black Prince is a non runner having knocked himself yesterday as soon as he knew he was declared….it’s the third time he has done that – been declared and managed to get out of running! Three different symptoms too and all serious enough to not run but not serious enough to stop him for long. His poor owners – they have been so very supportive throughout lockdown and haven’t benefited from having some fun on the racecourse. We are nearly naming him ‘sicknote’! He’s ok but the vet wasn’t happy enough for him to run today. No-one told him he was declared this time either…!

Horses at home all seem well. Warren Marston was in this morning and we worked Ben Buie and Sarasota Star. Lots more will work tomorrow.
