Martin’s Blog 1st June

Basking in sunshine today – what stunning weather and I know we need rain but the team weren’t complaining this morning! Horses in training just cantering today and no visitors which is rare for a Saturday.

Great to have both Ollie & Irene Ryan in yesterday and Paul Davis and Pip Frankish too watching the horses work and they included Bobble Emerald, Chequered View, Be Thankful, Cotswold Prince, Capital Force, Brillare Momento and Gold Mountain. A fun morning and the horses looking well.

Two runners today becomes one as Fairmount is now a non-runner. So we head to Stratford with Peter Boggis’s Mr Mafia under usual rider Harry Stock. I’m hoping he’s come on from his Exeter debut and we have switched him to fences where he’s off a lower mark. The weather may be a little cooler by 8.30pm too which will be kinder.

Sad news that Captain Brian Fanshawe has died so thoughts with his wife Libby (Dinah Nicholson’s sister) and the rest of the family. Belinda was his PA for a couple of years and she thoroughly enjoyed working with him and stopping to watch the racing whenever son James had a runner! Fond memories and no doubt he’s found The Duke to watch the Derby together!

A belated Happy 48th Wedding Anniversary to my parents for yesterday. They are always still surprised that I forget it – however I do point out that I wasn’t around 48 years ago!
