Martin’s Blog 19th April

A crisp morning turning into a stunning day so another day out in the field without rugs for our horses after they were ridden. A quiet cantering day today and we even cantered Dariya who will run in the last at Market Rasen tonight under Patrick Cowley in the Conditional Jockey’s Handicap Hurdle for David Parry. When the horses run so late in the day I like to stretch their legs in the morning so she just did one canter.

Dariya will definitely appreciate the good ground tonight as she’s not got that for us so far and I am hoping with the fitting of a visor too she will concentrate more and run better than her odds suggest.

Dreadfully sad news this morning that Lorna Brooke had died following her fall at Taunton earlier this month. We knew Lorna from the days when I was training point-to-pointers and Belinda rode against her. Such a lovely girl and always so smiley yet fiercely competitive when needed too. She’ll be sorely missed by so many in and out of racing and our love and thoughts are with her family and friends. A stark reminder of the dangers these jockeys take day in day out.
